Excerpt from the Patscheider Chronicle (written in 1988 by Mag.a Giselheid Patscheider-Riedmann):

Ferdinand Patscheider (1848-1897) married Adelheid Schuchter (1854-1911) on 29.04.1878 in Pfunds. At the side of the forester Ferdinand, a turbulent life awaited her. Since new posts were repeatedly assigned to him as a civil servant forester, it often meant packing up with the whole family. These many stations are documented by the birthplaces of the couple's five children:

  • Therese, born 1879 in Pfunds, married in 1910 to Albin Redl, Linz, mother of Gundl Janota.
  • Anton, born 1882 and Richard, born 1883 in Berwang (Lechtal).
  • Maria Magdalena, born 1887 in Klausen, became a teacher in Sterzing; a nervous illness brought her to Hall i. Tirol. From 1938 on, her trace was lost.
  • Ida, born 1892 in Mayrhofen, teacher, married Heinrich Müller, stage designer in Bern (son Berthold born 1923).

Ferdinand was feared as a forester but as a private person a welcome guest everywhere. Poachers had to be wary of him. With his love of singing, which he passed on to his children, he enriched many a village festival. As the financial situation of a small state official at that time was very tight, it was decided to send the two eldest children, Therese and Anton, to Aunt Therese, the mother's sister. She was married to Dr. Niederleitinger, the oldest surgeon in Austria, in Rohrbach (Upper Austria). The couple Niederleitinger had no children, so the two forester's children were able to enjoy an excellent upbringing with their foster parents. Anton spent his first years of grammar school in Freistadt.

In 1897 Ferdinand died in Mayrhofen in the Zillertal. The cemetery in the shadow of the church no longer exists today. His youngest child was five years old. For mother Adelheid, a time of deprivation and hardship began. Nevertheless, with God's help and the support of compassionate people, it was possible to provide all children with an education. The two sons were even able to begin and successfully complete their studies.
